Bbacca Alcedonia
Illustration Friday: Under the Sea
Commonly found in the waters of Amazonian jungle, this small fish (approximately a quarter of an inch long) tightly bites into the skin of a much large host and spends its life sucking blood of the host. After attaching itself to the host it loses its fins and grows round. The name Bacca Alcedonia means the berry fish because after a few days of blood consumption, the body becomes dark red resembling small wild berries.
